“Small Beginnings” support to Toddler groups

We regularly visit Toddler Groups across and around Kennet

We provide a range of information, activities, packs and services both for the Group, and for parents, carers and individuals.

These Groups provide a great place for parents and children to meet and have fun together.

We also support the leaders of these groups with information and  advice about health & safety, banking, advertising and resources.

See the “What’s On” Calendar for dates and places of Toddler Group visits.

What’s on for Young Children in Kennet

Information about a range of different services and organisations for you and your child within the Kennet District Area.

  • Although the information is mainly for the Under-fives, there are plenty of activities for young children of all ages and their families.
  • Many of the groups and organisations are as much for the parents and carers as for the children.
  • They provide opportunities to meet others in the same situation, to meet new people and to make new friends, often at a time when you’re getting used to being at home with young children.

Family Learning

Family learning encourages parent/carer and child to enjoy learning together through play, and to develop skills such as sharing and communication.

We promote family learning through a variety of ways, including
   •   Family Learning Events

   •   child-centred activities offered to those with children
        aged 0 – 3 attending Toddler groups

   •   playpacks – themed bags of toys, books, games and activities,
to borrow and take home for you and your child to share.

Courses offered:
   •   Play and Language taster sessions
   •   Language and Play course (6 weeks)
   •   Fun with Food

See the “What’s On” Calendar for Family Learning sessions

‘Time for You’ sessions

When you’re looking after children it’s really hard to find time to do anything else.

Our “Time for You” sessions offer parents with children a chance to meet and to

  • find out about available  services
  • find out what other organisations are up to
  • enjoy refreshments and conversation
  • discover the importance of learning through play

See the “What’s On” Calendar for dates and locations.

  • provides support for business women and a forum for discussing business issues
  • great for those just starting their own business
  • ideal for developing business contacts

Village Learning

Computer courses run in villages:

  • usually held in the village hall or local school
  • in partnership with training providers
  • great for people wanting to learn new skills but stopped by lack of transport, childcare or confidence

Children’s Centres in Marlborough and Tidworth

What is a Children’s Centre?

- A family support and parental outreach service
- Provides access to child and family health services
- Promotes parental involvement
- Provides ‘drop-ins’ such as Stay and Play
- Links to other services provided in the area
- Links people with job opportunities and training

The Vision

A Children’s Centre will play a central role in improving outcomes for all young children from birth to five. It will do this by helping to ensure that services are available to all children, but especially to those who need the most support.

Each centre will reflect the needs of its local community and aim to provide appropriate services.

CHILDREN’S CENTRES are at the heart of the Government’s
EVERY CHILD MATTERS: Change for Children Programme.

Be healthy
Stay safe
Positive contribution
Enjoy and achieve
Achieve economic well-being

By 2010 there will be 3,500 Children’s Centres - one for every community.

The Government has recognised that children’s centres in rural areas will need to work in a flexible way to meet the needs of the community area. Outreach for families will be part of the provision.
